Adebayo Akinbola, a staff of Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA), was on Monday docked before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing N4 million belonging to Mrs Olabisi Olabajo, the LCDA Chairman.

Akinbola, 31, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

ASP Peter Nwangwu, the police prosecutor, told the court that the LCDA staff committed the offence on Feb. 6 between the hours of 3.30pm and 6pm at Guaranty Trust Bank, Alimosho, Lagos.

“He was sent on an errand to the bank by the complainant to withdraw N4 million.

“After he withdrew the funds, he absconded and was not seen for an unspecified period of time.

“The matter was reported at the Ikotun Police Station and after series of investigations, he was caught and he claimed to the police that he was abducted by unknown persons.

“The money has, however, not yet been recovered from him,” Nwangu said.

The offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
NAN reports that the Section recommends a seven-year jail term for offenders.

The Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N850,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Aje-Afunwa said the sureties should be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until May 2, for mention.
