A Nigerian drug baron, Ekwegbalu James Nzube, 45, has been sentenced to death in Vietnam for smuggling drugs into the country.

Nzube was sentenced to death by a court in the southern Tay Ninh Province on Tuesday for trafficking nearly four kilograms of methamphetamine from Cambodia.

Vietnam Insider reported that Nzube said he got acquainted with another Nigerian, Jone, in China in 2014, and that the latter had hired him to transport drugs from Cambodia to Vietnam.

In March he came to Ho Chi Minh City before going to Cambodia to fetch the drugs for which he was paid $2,000.

But while illegally crossing the border into Vietnam last July he was caught by border guards in Tay Ninh Province.

In his rucksack they found four plastic bags with nearly four kg of meth.

Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws.

Those convicted of possessing or smuggling more than 600 g of heroin or over 2.5 kg of methamphetamine face death.

  • Tomorrow he would come back to the country and start bragging about how he worked hard to make his money under the cold Asian or European weather. Those countries have set their standards to checkmate drug trafficking. The convict knew what he was going for - succeed or be caught.

  • One day he will use his drug money to finance bandit or terrorist in Nigeria. He should face the penalty for his actions.

  • Jasper, what is this?
Buhari and Tinubu are your problem,
One of your brother sentence to death and one use kitchen knife to stab his wife to death in your state Anambra, now someone will walk away from you, nonsense

  • Nigeria should interven. Death penalty is to hash for the offence. No one supports thy crime but he should have served a sentence and correct his ways. Life always offer second chance.

    • Intervene for what? Those than risk their lives would lose it more quickly. Afterall they are aware of the laws.

  • As a Blackman (Nigerian or African) you stand no chance in all these racist and inhumane countries esp. Far East & EU countries. Let's hope our Nigerian fellows will learn before it's too late.
