Crown Flour Mill, a subsidiary of Olam Group has reiterated its commitment to assist the Nigerian government achieve sustainable food sufficiency.
The commitment was stated when the Wheat Development Team of Crown Flour Mill led by Damilola Adeniyi, the Corporate Affairs Manager and Moshood Quadri, head human resources visited the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Sabo Nanono in his office in Abuja.
Some other senior managers of the company were part of the visiting team on 23 February.
Adeniyi said the team came to inform the ministry of the company’s commitment to build Nigerian wheat-growing capability by bringing in new seed varieties and innovative ways of agriculture.
Crown Flour Mills, she said, seeks partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, state governments and other major stakeholders in the agricultural sub-sector to achieve its objective.
CFM as a key member of the Flour Milling Association of Nigeria (FMAN) has also made some contributions in areas such as research and seed trials, distribution of input, seed production, targeted at smallholder wheat farmers.
Rauda Musa Umar, the company’s Wheat Development Programme Officer, said that the company will soon be embarking on new research using a block farming pilot project.
According to her, plans are at an advance stage to commit Kano State to make land available for the project.
The minister thanked the team for coming and promised that the government will support the company to succeed in its developmental programmes.
