An NGO, Arewa Youths Trust Foundation (AYTF), has appealed to Nigerians to repent, exhibit fear of God and steadfastness in seeking His intervention over the numerous challenges bedevilling the country, as 2021 sets in.

This is contained in a statement issued by AYTF’s Team Leader, Dr Fahad Ahmed-Chikaji, and made available to newsmen on Friday in Kaduna.

“As 2020 ended and 2021 commences, it is incumbent on every one of us to repent and intensify prayers for God to put an end to multiple challenges confronting the entire nation.

“It is another New Year; the outcome of the festive tree, though this version of New Year distinguishes itself from others, especially by its eccentricities and peculiarities, one cannot help but perceive the festive gaiety and happiness in the air.

“It is the much-needed breath of fresh air, considering the myriad of negative themes that were prevalent in 2020,” he said.

Ahmed-Chikaji, however, added that Nigerians should not let their problems slip under the radar or be swept under the carpet by letting the joy and celebrations of the festive season of 2021 deceive them.

“So, as we are celebrating, we should ponder, pray and negotiate hostility with peace, for it is the default setting of man to tolerate one another and recognise and accept our differences,” he said.

Ahmed-Chikaji urged governments at all levels, traditional rulers and citizens to utilise the festive season to pray and ponder upon ways to curb issues of insecurity that had blocked the pathway to the nation’s progress.

He enumerated the most notable problems to include Boko Haram, kidnappings and the marauding banditry.

The team leader lamented that the vulnerable girl-child was being neglected and allowed to roam the streets, hawking, at the expense of education, insisting that girl- child education was non-negotiable.

He noted that the growth and development of the nation would solidly be depended on the ability to preach and propagate peace.

Ahmed-Chikaji also urged youths to strive to be self-reliant in order to reduce the enormous pressure on governments, apart from contributing their quota to economic prosperity and nation building.

He stressed the need for government to introduce some measures to tackle unemployment which, he described, as one of the reasons leading to numerous social vices, such as rape.
