The Chairman of the Kogi State Independent National Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Mr Mamman Eri, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the local government elections, held on Saturday.

Eri, who spoke with reporters in Lokoja at the end of the election, described the exercise as peaceful and successful.

He lauded voters for their peaceful conduct at polling booths but observed that the turnout was low.

Eri also said that the election took place in all the 2, 548 polling units in 239 wards across the 21 local government councils in the state without any itches.

Meanwhile, KOSIEC has declared the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winners of the elections in Okene and Ogori-Magongo Local Government Areas.

Hon. Yakubu Chogudo, KOSIEC’s Commissioner in charge of media and publicity, who announced the results, declared that Malam Abdulrazak Yusuf of APC won the chairmanship position for Okene Local Government Council.

He said that Yusuf polled 113, 210 votes to emerge, winner, while the candidate of the PDP scored 1, 482 to come second.

Chogudo also announced that the candidates of the SDP and LP scored 411 and 348, respectively.

The commissioner similarly, announced that all the 11 councillorship positions in the council were won by the candidates of the APC.

Chogudo also declared Mr. Goke Oparison of the APC as the winner of the chairmanship election for Ogori-Magongo Local Government.

He said that Oparison won the election by scoring 11,119 votes to beat his PDP rival, who scored 338 votes.

Chogudo also declared APC candidates as winners of all the 10 councillorship positions in the local government.
