Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has disclosed that he has tested positive to COVID-19.

The governor revealed the result of his COVID-19 status on his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday afternoon, adding that he is asymptomatic and have been self-isolating.

He tweeted “Today I tested positive for #COVID19.

“All is well. I’m asymptomatic and have been self isolating. Work continues. Your continued prayers over my well being are most appreciated.

The announcement comes just three weeks to the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Though 32 cases were recorded on Monday, Ondo is not one of the states most affected by the virus.

The COVID-19 caseload in the state stood at 276 as at Monday, with the state ranking 19th in the national cumulative leaderboard.

Akeredolu will be the fifth serving governor to contract the virus, after Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia and Seyi Makinde of Oyo.

Former Oyo governor Abiola Ajimobi also contracted the virus late May. He did not survive it.
