Former Ondo governor, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua has died

The Speaker of Ekiti House of Assembly, Mr Funminiyi Afuye, has described a former governor of the old Ondo State, Bamidele Olumilua, as an outstanding elder statesman.

In a tribute signed by his Special Adviser on Media,  Tai Oguntayo, he described Olumilua as an ambassador of the state.

He said the late Ikere-Ekiti born politician left good footprints for his followers.

”It is the footprints left behind by Baba that we are following and it is a thing of joy that he left behind a good legacy. He was a Pathfinder.”

He said Olumilua was “a disciplinarian, educationist and a progressive politician who lived a selfless, spartan and exemplary life.”

“Olumilua’s death was confirmed on Thursday morning at the age of 80 by his son, Ekiti  Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Muyiwa Olumilua.

“He was the governor of Ondo State from January 1992 to November 1993 during the Nigerian Third Republic.

“Pa Olumilua was elected on the platform of the  Social Democratic Party (SDP), but left office when the military regime of General Sani Abacha took over power,” Afuye said.
