Jonathan Steingard is a Canadian musician, lead vocalist and lead guitarist for the Christian band, Hawk Nelson. Jonathan was born in 1983. He is the oldest of three children.
Jonathan started playing guitar when he was nine years old. He joined Hawk Nelson, a Christian rock and pop-punk band from Peterborough, Ontario, in 2004 after David Clark left the band. He later took over vocal duties upon Jason Dunn’s departure in March 2012.
He plays PRS Guitars, Matchless and Metroamp Amps, Pedaltrain Pedalboards, and GHS Strings. His current touring PRS guitars include an SC245, a Mira, and a Chris Henderson Model.
His side projects include September Satellite, The Natural Anthem, two albums entitled Fox Run, Under The Canopy and an EP Atlantis.
Jonathan‘s first principal side project, Fox Run, released on October 25, 2006, utilizes a large number of instruments for a unique sound.
His second album Under The Canopy, released on November 25, 2008, is rather an emotional alternative one rather than the pop-punk genre of Hawk Nelson, while three singles from Under The Canopy was featured in the Atlantis EP released on November 11, 2008, and available for free download.
Jonathan served as a judge for The 13th and 14th Annual Independent Music Awards in 2014 and 2015, and his contributions helped to assist the careers of upcoming independent artists.
According to his personal website, Jonathan is also a director and filmmaker who specializes in music videos, promo videos, text animation, and effects.
“I’ve been in a band called Hawk Nelson since 2004, but these days I’m spending most of my time making videos. I call them “films” because it sounds cooler, even though I’ve never made a movie on film in my life. Bucket list? Maybe,” he wrote on his website.
Jonathan and his girlfriend Jessica Hubbard got married in March 2007, and then both moved to the suburb of Nashville, Tennessee. He and his wife founded Breaktide Artist Services.
In May 2020, made news headlines after he announced on Instagram that he no longer believes in God and also suggested that he will be leaving Hawk Nelson in the future but remained open to believing again in the future.
