Chiwetalu Agu who won the 2012 Nollywood award for ‘best actor in the indigenous movie (non-English speaking language)’ uniquely became a household name in Nigeria and among Nollywood admirers abroad for his usage of specific language slang, phrases or clichés in each film.

Chiwetalu Agu was born in 1956. His career as an actor started about 31 years ago, long before Nollywood was popular. He obtained a Bachelors degree in Dramatic Arts from the Munchen College, Former West Germany between 1977 and 1981.

In February 2020, the Enugu-born actor who is famous for his funny catchphrases in movies, was forced to deny rumours that he was dead.

“My good friend and big brother Chiwetalu Agu said I should tell you to disregard the wicked rumour that has gone viral about his demise…,” read a statement shared on Facebook by movie producer Mike Nliam.
