Former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Alhaji Sharafadeen Alli, has called on Muslims to intensify prayers against COVID-19 as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.

He made the call in a Sallah message made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Ibadan.

Muslims across the world are celebrating the Eid-el-Fitr amidst the COVID-19 pandemic today Sunday May 24.

“It is my prayer that Allah accepts the thirty-day fast as an act of Ibadah and save the world from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic ravaging the whole of humanity.

” When the land is troubled, the prayers of the faithful will heal the land,” Alli said.

The Ibadan high chief, however, enjoined Muslims to adopt moderation in the celebration and adhere strictly to the precautionary measures laid down to avoid further spread of the virus.

He also advised those who eschewed vices during the fasting period to shy away from the temptation to revert to them after the Ramadan.

Dr Olusola Ayandele, an APC chieftain in the state, also expressed the hope that the observance of the holy festival would foster deeper understanding among the people of the state irrespective of religious beliefs.

“Let us all reflect on the virtues of humility, patience and generosity that Eid-el-Fitr signifies. To our Muslim brothers and sisters, I wish you a joyous and meaningful celebration,” he said.
