Uganda’s coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have risen to 198 as 23 new cases were recorded on Saturday.

According to the country’s health ministry, 23 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the last 24 hours.

This has brought the total number of infections to 198 in the East African country.

The ministry said in a statement that out of 1,187 samples collected from cross-border drivers and the community, 19 Ugandan truck drivers and four contacts of previously confirmed truck drivers under quarantine tested positive for the virus.

It included that a total of 38 foreign truck drivers who had tested positive for the virus were handed over to their countries of origin.

68 persons have so far recovered with no single death recorded according to the ministry.

The country on 19 May lifted lockdown restrictions earlier put in place to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
