A medical worker tests car occupant in UK drive-in COVID-19 testing centre

The United Kingdom Health Department has announced the beginning of trials of a new COVID-19 test that would take only up to 20 minutes to deliver results.

Trials of the new test, which detects whether people are carrying the virus or not, have kicked off in Hampshire.

According to the department, the new testing method, called loop-mediated isothermal amplification, “has been proven effective in clinical settings”.

It would provide a great push to the UK’s efforts to develop a test and trace system. To put off potential new outbreaks of the virus after the lockdown restrictions are eased.
