India’s coronavirus caseload jumped to 118,447 on Friday as it logged 6,088 new cases, its highest in a 24 hour cycle.

The death toll also reached 3,583 after 148 deaths overnight were added.

However, an estimated 48,553 COVID-19 patients have been discharged.

According to figures released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the state of Maharashtra remains the epicentre of the virus.

It has 41,642 cases of infection and 1,454 deaths.

Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, is the worst affected in the state.

It has registered 25,500 cases and 882 deaths.

Maharashtra is followed by Tamil Nadu with 13,967 cases.

Gujarat is third on the list with 12,910 cases.

After Gujarat comes Delhi, where the COVID-19 figure stands at 11,659.

Delhi has 5,567 patients who have recovered and 194 fatalities.

Rajasthan is next with 6,227 cases.

Out of the lot, 3,485 have recovered and 151 patients have died.
