President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a message of congratulations to Dr. Olagunju Ogunbiyi, on his discharge from hospital in London after recovering from COVID-19.
Ogunbiyi is a distinguished Nigerian Consultant Surgeon.
He has has taught several generations of UK doctors.
He is now an eminent surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital, one of London’s leading reference hospitals.
He was under care for two and a half weeks and is now completely recovered.
A hospital source said Dr. Ogunbiyi was “irreplaceable” – such was the regard he was held in the UK healthcare community.
President Buhari on behalf of all Nigerians wished Dr. Ogunbiyi quick recuperation and early return to work.
Ogunbiyi, known as Gunju at work, is part of a team of experts at the neuroendocrine tumour (NET) unit at the Royal Free Hospital.
The team is made up of a highly qualified team of consultant general surgeons, gastroenterologists and oncologists.
Each consultant sub-specialises in a different area of Neuroendocrine Tumours, allowing the clinic to offer comprehensive treatment for private patients.
Ogunbiyi’s special area is on Colorectal, gastroscopy OGD, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, gastrointestinal cancers and lower gastro-intestinal cancers.
A video on his recovery went viral last week as hospital staff cheered as he was wheeled out of the recovery ward.
