Mrs Christiana Uzor-Okamgba, Founder, Tabitha Empowerment Centre, an NGO says the organisation is providing access to clean water to some FCT residents to prevent spread of coronavirus in Jikwoyi area.

Uzor-Okamgba, a retired CBN staff, on Wednesday said that the effort was part of the organisation’s contribution to ease the suffering of the residents.

She said that she discovered that some residents in Jikwoyi area of the FCT lacked access to water, adding that the intervention would improve their livelihood.

“I was moved by the way people go around looking for water, while I have my borehole running with clean water in this area.

“I have passion in helping people, especially the less privileged; we all know that water is life and with this lockdown in the country, many people don’t have money to even feed their families.

“So, I decided to render my assistance by providing this access to not only water but clean and drinkable water to my people free in the area.

“We use water to bathe, wash our hands, wash clothes, cook, drink among others and we cannot be telling people to keep their body and environment clean without providing water for them.

“My aim of doing this is to ease the burden of the people. That money they will use to buy water, they can use it to purchase other food items for their family.

“I know that it will go a long way in solving some of their domestic challenges,” she said.

Uzor-Okamgba urged other meaningful Nigerians to support the government by providing necessary items to less privileged, saying such would encourage peace, unity and reduce poverty in the society.

She said that most Nigerians still do not want to believe that coronavirus was real, adding that such impression would not help the effort of government and other relevant organisations in the fight against the disease.

“It is only when you believed that coronavirus is real or exists that you can look for a solution to it.

“So I am advising our able Nigerians to believe that COVID-19 is real so that they can support the government to fight the virus.

“The earlier we realise how deadly the virus is, the earlier we look for a final solution to end the disease in the country,” she said.

Uzor-Okamgba said that the organisation was focusing mainly on combating domestic violence, taking care of less privileged and vulnerable in the society.

She said the NGO was partnering with National Human Right Commission (NHRC), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP), International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), among others.

She said that the partnership was to assist victims of such domestic violence to gain justice and speak for the voiceless in the society.

She said that the organisation was aimed at taking care of the vulnerable, especially the widows, orphans and other Nigerians “who cannot afford their livelihood in the society”.

Uzor-Okamgba noted that the organisation had visited about three orphanages with some food items in the FCT, adding that the effort was part of its achievements.

Mrs Rose Jonathan, one of the residents, who benefited from the provision of water said that Uzor-Okamgba had been assisting her family in many ways.

Jonathan, a widow thanked the NGO for assisting the residents in providing clean water.

According to her, I have been fetching water in this borehole without paying any money even before the lockdown started.

“May God bless madam Uzor-Okamgba and her entire family, she is a wonderful and easy-going woman, God will continue to uplift and protect her,” she said.
