New York’s Democratic presidential primary must hold

A federal judge on Tuesday reinstated New York’s Democratic presidential primary.

The Judge said the state’s Board of Elections’ decision to cancel the contest amid the coronavirus pandemic unconstitutionally “deprived” millions of residents of “the right to vote”.

The decision by Manhattan Federal Court Judge Analisa Torres, however, puts the primary back on for June 23.

However, New York is the epicenter of coronavirus in the U.S.

But Judge Torres noted that the state was encouraging voters to vote by mail and doubted that canceling the presidential primary entirely would significantly stop the spread of Covid-19.

Andrew Yang, who dropped out of the Democratic presidential race in February, filed the lawsuit that prompted Torres’ decision.
