Iran’s popular Instagram couple Ahmad-Moin Shirazi and his wife Shabnam Shahrokhi have been sentenced to a total of 16 years in prison by a Revolutionary Court in Iran.

Shahrokhi got an additional 74 lashes and three months of unpaid labour.

The couple were sentenced in absentia as they are on self-exile in Turkey with their two children.

According to Alarabiya, the couple left Iran after realising that the Revolutionary Court was looking to convict them in any way.

In an Instagram post late April, Shirazi said he and his wife have been charged with “propaganda against the regime,” posting “obscene and vulgar” content and “spreading moral corruption.”

Shirazi, a former kickboxing champion and entrepreneur, has over half a million followers on Instagram.

His share of the sentence was nine years in prison.

His wife, Shahrokhi, was sentenced to seven years.

The couple were informed of their sentences by their lawyer.

But Shirazi said he intends to appeal the court’s decision.
