President of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Edo state branch, Dr. (Mrs.) Adesuwa Urhoghide-Edigin has charged stakeholders in the health sector to use the challenge of coronavirus pandemic to strengthen the sector.
Urhoghide-Edigin who gave the change in a statement to commemorate the 2020 May Day (Workers Day) celebration, commended efforts of healthcare workers across the country in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
“This challenge facing us would strengthen the healthcare sector and strengthen us a people in Edo state.
“Times may be tough for health workers, and especially for us medical women who have to function in so many capacities, but we are built with resilience and we shall all overcome,” she said.
Urhoghide-Edigin described health care workers who are in the frontline of the fight to contain the spread of Covid-19 as superheroes.
According to her, “This day is unique as our state and the nation battles against the Covid 19 pandemic. The health care workers are the frontline workers in this fight.
“We are the superheroes and medical women all over Edo state are in this fight to eradicate this scourge.
“We also commend all the efforts of all health workers in Edo state. We are proud of every one of us. We commend our members serving in various state committees and in other capacities.”
The state MWAN President also commended efforts of the state government in the fight against coronavirus and sued for its sustenance.
She pledged the continued support and assistance of medical woman in the state to the government in fighting the spread of Covid-19 through sensitization among others, adding: “We recommend that this momentum is kept.”
She, therefore, called on the state government to ensure the safety of its members who are in the frontline in the Covid-19 treatment by providing them with personal protective equipment (PPE).
