Coronavirus recovery rate in Nigeria as at Thursday night was 16 percent

The United States is the worst-hit by coronavirus on Earth, but it is also one of the countries with a poor recovery record of just 14 percent.

Out of its confirmed cases of 1,112,341 as at 1900GMT on Friday, the U.S. has only been able to cure 157,811 patients.

Only Russia, among the top 10 coronavirus-hit nations shares the U.S. survival record at just 11.5 per cent.

By Friday, Russia has 114,431 cases, out of which only 13,220 had been discharged.

Similarly, only 16 of the 1,932 confirmed cases in Nigeria had recovered on Thursday.

Ghana even fared worse, with 212 people recovering out of 2.074.

South Africa and Egypt with more cases fared better.

South Africa has 2,073 patients, 37 percent, surviving out of 5,647 cases.

Egypt has 25 percent recovery, 1,381 out of 5537 cases.

There are at least 35 countries in the world with better statistics of success against the virus. Seven of them are in Africa.

The Faeroe Islands has the best record so far with 98 percent recovery.

Out of its 187 cases, the island has discharged 184, with three cases receiving attention.

The African island nation of Mauritius has the next best record of recovery with 93.4 per cent. Out of its 332 cases, 310 have been discharged, with 10 people dead.

China, the staging post of the virus to the world last year December also scored 93 per cent.

It was able till date to cure 77,642 of the 82,874 cases, reported as of Friday. The death toll was 4,633.

Recovery from the virus in Thailand is 91 percent. Out of 2,960 cases, 2,719 have been given a clean bill of health.

Of the hard-hit countries in Europe, Germany has the best recovery rate of 78 percent.

This sharply contrasts with Italy’s 38 percent, Spain’s 57 and France’s 29.

Globally, out of 3,365,246 confirmed cases, 1,069,810 have recovered, an indication that many nations are finding some ways of beating the deadly virus.
