Wife of Kwara Governor, Mrs Olufolake Abdulrazaq, on Friday in Ilorin, distributed palliatives to the less-privileged and the vulnerable members of the society.
The gesture, according to her, is an initiative of the Northern Governors’ Wives’ Forum, aimed at cushioning the effect of the lockdown, occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic.
Over 200 vulnerable households in the state benefitted from the palliatives.
While presenting the items, Mrs Abdulrazaq urged well-meaning Nigerians to donate to the poor and the vulnerable at this time.
“In order to cushion the effect of the coronavirus lockdown on the people, it is the initiative of the Northern Governors’ Wives’ Forum to distribute palliatives to the indigent and the vulnerable groups in the 19 northern states.
“It is evident that this is not an easy period for all of us Nigerians, especially those amongst us who are in dire need.
“Therefore, these palliatives are targeted at assisting such people, to cushion the effect of the economic hardship caused by the pandemic.
“As we go through the month of Ramadan, we implore the more able amongst us to help the needy Nigerians through this difficult period.
“We, however, remain confident that we shall come out stronger as a nation and overcome the present challenges of the pandemic”, she said.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the kind gesture, saying it would go a long way in helping them at this time.
Mrs Fatimah Aliyu, a beneficiary, appreciated the governor’s wife, praying for God’s protection and wisdom for her to continue the good work.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Oluwatoyin Ismail, was full of praises for the governor’s wife, describing her as “a mother indeed.
Mrs Abdulrazaq had earlier presented the sum of N100,000 to the Kwara Ladies Football Club, as part of palliatives to cushion the effect of the coronavirus pandemic.
In his response, Chairman of the team Mr Daudu Jimoh, commended her, promising that the money would be judiciously utilised.
In another development, the Association of Female Tailors in the state has presented locally-made face masks to the governor’s wife.
The President of the association, Mrs Elizabeth Animashaun, said that the donation was part of the group’s contributions to curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
Mrs Abdulrazaq thanked the association for the kind gesture, pledging that the face masks would be fairly distributed across the state.
