Dino Melaye gives palliatives to hawkers, urges them to stay indoor

Former senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district, Dino Melaye and People’s Democratic Party chieftain, has urged some women hawking plantains by the roadside to stay indoors to avoid contacting coronavirus.

This is coming days after President Muhammadu Buhari extended the lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states for a week and introduced curfew starting from May 4 to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

The former lawmaker posted a video of himself interacting with the women beside a major road in Abuja on his Twitter.

In the 2-minute video, Senator Dino Melaye can be seen advising the five women to stay at home and obey government directives in curbing the spread of the deadly disease, Coronavirus.

“You can unknowingly transmit the deadly disease to another person or be infected by selling these plantains,” Melaye added.

Responding to Melaye’s advise, one of the women who is a mother of six children said hunger forced them out and they have no choice than to sell plaintains to survive.

The woman said if she decides to stay at home irrespective of the hunger but the cries of her children for food would not make her stay indoor.

Melaye said he understands the explanation of the woman and the need for survival is premium. He gave the woman and her colleagues an undisclosed amount of money and appealed that they should stay indoor.
