Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Segun Dawodu has appealed to residents of the State not to use the stay at home order to engage in any form of abuse.
Dawodu made this appeal following several reported cases of contravention of the order by some youths and residents of the State who had been using major highways for sporting activities.
He said that decision to shut all sporting facilities across the State was a tough one for the government but explained that the government acted in the best interest of the masses to prevent the spread of the virus.
Dawodu who stated that the present state of situation across the metropolis is a very challenging one, pleaded with the residents to endure the short period of the lock down, pending when normal activities would resume across the State.
He condemned the attitude of some youths who had turned major highways to football pitch and for for other sporting activities, saying that the act was a total disregard for the stay at home order by the Federal Government.
In his words, ” I will advise our youths to channel their energy and vigor to productive ventures this period, engage in positive usage of the social media and devote more time to studying and learning.”
He commended some of the youth who had already registered as volunteers with the state government to contribute their quota to the development of the State, especially during this covid-19 period.
While urging more of the youth population in the State to also register as volunteers under the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals and Investment, via www.lsvc.ng, Dawodu explained that the act is capable of providing opportunities for the youths to learn new skills, become better persons and assist the unemployed with better job placement.
The Commissioner also disclosed that the Ministry in its proactive nature has devised a faster means of attending to cases of abuse and had since put some phone numbers in the public domain for the residents.
