Another record 936 people died in the UK on Wednesday from coronavirus, indicating the virus’ Grim Reaper, is unrelenting.
The new toll took the country’s deaths past 7,000 to 7,097.
On Tuesday, the country recorded 854 deaths, a sharp increase over the 439 had on Monday.
In the new toll, England has 828 deaths.
Scotland reported 70 deaths.
Wales logged 33 and Northern Ireland 5 deaths.
Confirmed cases now stand at 60,733 after 5,491 cases added.
The grim figures emerged as Prime Minister Boris Johnson is ‘responding to treatment’ for coronavirus.
Downing Street said he remains in a stable condition at the St Thomas’ Hospital, where he is on admission.
He is in the intensive care unit.
