Unidentified gunmen early on Saturday kidnapped Hamman-Jolde Gatugel, leader of a national union in Adamawa state.

Gatugel, chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state was kidnapped in his hometown of Mayo-Belwa at 00.50 a.m.

It was not clear why he was abducted.

DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, the Spokesperson of the command, confirmed the kidnapping in a statement.

“The Command has received a report of the kidnapping the state Chairman of NULGE at his hometown, Mayo-Belwa LGA.

“The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Audu Madaki, has quickly responded and directed the Command’s Special Anti Kidnap Unit, DPOs of Karewa and Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area Divisions to swing into action.

“We are appealing to the general public especially Mayo-Belwa citizens to help the unit with useful information,” Nguroje said.

Mr Emma Fashe, the state Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said the union received the news with shock.

“Up till now, the suspected kidnappers have not made any statement,” Fashe said.

Mr Kabiru Kelly, the Information Officer of Mayo-Belwa local Government Council, said the NULGE Chairman was kidnapped in his house.

He said there has been no form of communication with the abductors
