Coronavirus: Edo begins fumigation of state

To check the spreading of the coronavirus disease, the Edo State Government has kicked off the fumigation of the entire state.

Deputy Governor of the state who us also the chairman of the technical committee set up to monitor the spread of the disease, Comrade Philip Shaibu, disclosed this Thursday evening.

He also stated that some hospitals were scared of accepting patients who presented themselves at such medical facilities.

“We discovered that our environment is very key. Environmental sanitation has started today across the state.

“We have started fumigation in the state and this is done simultaneously in all the local government areas. It is a synergy between the state (government) and the local government councils.

“Trucks will be going through all the streets to fumigate all our streets and public places. That measure will also help to reduce the spread of coronavirus,” he said.

The Deputy Governor encouraged residents of the state to adopt measures to clean their environment and also sanitise their work places and homes.

Speaking further, Shaibu said: “We observed that some of our hospitals are scared, even when they are supposed to be the hope of the people. Medical practitioners are to prepare for emergency response. We also informed them of the need not to turn anybody back. There is no need to panic.

“We are appealing to us, this situation is one that we mist take ownership in dealing with the scourge. We are just in a temporary period. How we manage this period will determine what becomes of us tomorrow. Be your brother’s keeper as you also be your own keeper.

“There is a message to all public and private hospitals in the state that they should not turn away any patient that presents before them.”

The Deputy Governor urged whoever has any symptoms or any reason to go to the hospital immediately.

“If you know anybody suspected to have symptoms looking like coronavirus disease, encourage them to go to any of the designated hospitals,” he added.
