In line with the directive from the Lagos State Government on maintaining Social distancing and having not more than 25 people congregating at any time, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) is set to commence enforcement on construction sites in Lagos state.
General Manager of LASBCA, Engr. Abiola Kosegbe stated this while briefing pressmen at the Agency’s Head Office in Ikeja on measures taken to curtail the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 virus in the built Industry.
The General Manager noted that the life of every Lagosian was important, hence the agency would go all out to ensure that artisans, labourers and professionals on building sites did not exceed 20 and maintain at least two metres away from each other as advised by the World Health Organisation.
She further said that apart from Social distancing, all construction sites were required to provide running water and soap for handwashing as well as sanitizers for both workers and visitors alike or risk being sealed by the Agency.
In addition to that, Kosegbe said that sites must be properly sanitized and provision for all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hand gloves and face mask must be worn by all workers.
The General Manager had earlier advised that if possible, construction sites should shut down operations for at least two weeks in the first instance, because it would be near impossible for workers to maintain social distancing on site.
She implored all those who have cold or “flu” symptoms to stay off work and access medical treatment immediately so as to avoid transmitting to other people.
