Bala Mohammed: coronavirus test result shocks Bauchi people
News about Gov. Bala Mohammad testing positive to coronavirus shocked many residents of the state.
In interviews, some citizens said the news was devastating.
“It should now become clear to those in doubt that the threat of COVID-19 is no longer a case of ‘tales by the moonlight’ but ‘reality’”, one man said.
“We pray for his recovery and those of others that tested positive>
“As our governor, he is doing very well and God will protect him,” said another respondent.
Though they applauded him for going for the test, they also expressed concern about those who would have contracted the disease through him.
Abdullahi Yelwa, a lecturer at the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic said:
“It was worrisome to have the number one person in the state affected”.
“When the head is sick, the entire body is sick because we need the governor to be on his feet to rescue others”, he said.
Governor Bala Mohammed isolated himself on March 23, following contacts with Mohammed Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Abubakar was confirmed to have the virus on Sunday.
The result of the investigation of the blood samples of the governor was released 24 March. It indicated that the governor had contracted the deadly virus.
Five other blood samples tested negative.
The result was released by Malam Muktar Gidado, the governor’s media aide.
“At this point, it should be noted that the Governor is in self-isolation as his doctors and officials from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) have taken full charge of his quarantine,” Gidado said.
