President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to support the Lagos State Government in bringing relief to victims of the Abule Ado Soba explosion which occurred on Sunday 15 March 2020.

The President who was represented by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Services, Hajia Sadia Umar-Farouq, according to a release by  Public Affairs Unit of the Lagos State Deputy Governor’s office, gave the assurance on Wednesday during an on the spot assessment of the explosion site by a federal government delegation led by the minister.

The delegation promised to work closely with the committee set up by the state government to know the root cause of the explosion.

According to the Minister, her visit to Lagos was at the instance of President Muhammadu Buhari and it is to have an “on-the-spot assessment of the incident and commiserate with the people and government of Lagos State over the incident.”

The President described the incident as very unfortunate and promised that the Federal Government would provide relief materials for the victims and assist in setting up of a framework to forestall recurrence.

He promised further to look into means of supporting the state government in rebuilding the area affected by the explosion and ensure provision of adequate medical supplies for those on admission at the hospitals.

Buhari, therefore, commiserated with the families of those that lost their lives in the disaster and prayed for the reposed of their souls.

Earlier in his remarks, the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who led the Minister in an on-the –spot-assessment of the scene of the explosion thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for showing much concern by sending the Minister and other federal government representatives to the state.

Hamzat informed that the state government has commenced gathering of data of those affected by the incident to ensure that everyone is captured, urging people to move out of the site to enable rescue operators do their work without hindrance.
