The Lagos State Government on Wednesday mulled stoppage of Muslim’s Friday Juma’at and Christian’s Sunday services in a bid to halt the spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.
State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, who spoke on Wednesday at a briefing said the government would advise Muslims and Christians to shut down their services to avoid the spread of the disease.
According to him, the state government was aware that the Federal Government asked the National Youth Service Corps to shut down orientation camps on Tuesday and that the Commissioner for Home Affairs said there would be a meeting with religious leaders today.
“It is going to be suggested to them to maybe stop Friday and Sunday services – wherever we have large gatherings.
“Going by the new development, I am sure they will be advised to shut down the services in the interest of the public and all of us. I am sure they are going to comply,”he said.
The Federal Government on Wednesday announced five new cases of Coronavirus, bring the total to eight cases.
To halt the spread, the Federal Government had imposed travel ban on 13 countries, including US and UK.
