Roger Mayweather’s death was mourned Tuesday by boxing world. He was 58.

The legendary boxing trainer and uncle to Floyd Mayweather was a former world champion in three categories. A devastated Floyd Mayweather confirmed Roger’s death.

Roger was in declining health over a decade before his death. His health problems were evident in 2016 when he went missing for several days in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Roger fought in the featherweight, lightweight and welterweight boxing classes and was 59-13 in his pro career, which spanned 1981-1999. He was a world champion in the super featherweight, light welterweight and welterweight classes.

He was the first “Black Mamba” before Kobe Bryant adopted it.

Roger was heavily involved in Mayweather Jr’s training team following his own boxing career.

His nephew Floyd in a 2015 interview had spoken about Roger’s declining health:

‘My uncle Roger Mayweather has lost a lot of memory from the sport of boxing,’ Floyd said. ‘He’s only in his 50s, but it seems like he’s an old man in his 80s.’
