Lagos State has emerged as one of the best states in Nigeria at the year 2020 National Junior Engineers, Technicians, and Scientists, (JETS) competitions.

According to a release by the state’s Head of Public Affairs Unit, Ministry of Education, Kayode Abayomi, Lagos State team won 11 star Trophies and 14 Medals as 1st Position National Theme Project, 1st and 3rd Position in Biology, Best Female JETS, 2nd positions in Free Choice Project (Primary), Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics Competition among others.

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, commended the team for making the State proud.

She recalled that just last year, Lagos State Students attained a similar feat in the same competition, noting that students of Lagos State schools, both private and public, have been participating and recording successes in various competitions over the years.

This, according to her, is a testament to the improved teaching and learning outcomes in all schools across the state.

“The competition has laid a solid foundation for science development in Nigeria and one encouraging trend observed is that the quality of performance of the schools has been on the increase since inception of the competition.” She said, urging the students to study harder to win more trophies at national and international competitions in future.

She urged the students and their teachers to do more in order to take first position in all categories of future competitions because, according to her, Lagos is the Centre of Excellence.

The elated students promised not to relent on their efforts as they were focused towards achieving greater heights that would bring glory to Lagos State and the Nation in the area of scientific discoveries and technological inventions in tandem with the vision of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

The JETS competition is an annual national competition aimed at popularizing the teaching and learning of Science and Technology in schools and to expose young talented and intelligent scientists to the world beyond their locality.

It has this year’s theme as “Science, Technology and Innovations; A Panacea for Insecurity in Nigeria” and was organized by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with all the state ministries of education and the Federal Capital Territory (FTC), Abuja.
