Prior to the start of the current campaign, many believed it would be another easy victory for Barcelona in the title race.

They had won the title for two years in succession and by wide margins on each occasion.

Last season they had beaten Atletico Madrid by 11 points, with a further eight points back to Real Madrid. That means Real Madrid were 19 points behind the winners and needed to improve greatly if they were to challenge this season.

Despite these daunting statistics, Madrid were well backed for a title tilt with punters using the offers available at online-casinos.ng but made a poor start to the season.

Since then, Zidane has returned to the club and has again made a major impact and Real Madrid now appear to be much improved.

This includes them coming off the back of a recent victory in El Classico against Barcelona in the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid won the match 2-0, following two second half goals from Vinicius Junior and Mariano.

The victory also pushed Real Madrid into favouritism for the title, as they look to win the title for the first time since back in the 2016/17 season.

The side will also be looking to extend on their record breaking haul of 33 titles to date, which still puts them seven clear of Barcelona as the most successful side in the history of Spanish football.

Since the title victory, Real Madrid have finished in third position for the last two seasons, which led to investment in the squad and changes needing to be made.

This is why better things were expected this season and Madrid were to return into challenging Barcelona for the title.

There are now just 12 matches left in the La Liga title race, with Real Madrid one point clear of defending champions Barcelona and a further nine clear of third placed side Sevilla.

Atletico Madrid are having a very inconsistent season and are down in fifth position, but only a point outside of the top four, so will still be expected to finish in the Champions league places.

Real Madrid have picked up 56 points from a possible 78, winning 16, drawing eight and losing just two.

The two loses coming via a 1-0 away defeat to Mallorca back in October and a recent 1-0 loss away at Levante.

However, Madrid remain the side in the best form at present and look to have an excellent chance of returning to winning ways with a title victory this year.
