Agbowu sues Oluwo, demands 100m over assault

Oluwo of Iwoland allegedly assaulted his fellow monarch

Oba Dhirulahi Akinropo, Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa town has filed a lawsuit against the Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrosheed Akanbi over an alleged assault during a peace meeting.

The monarch who is demanding for N100 million as damages and N1 million as the cost of hiring legal service for the action is also seeking a perpetual injunction restraining Mr Akanbi and his “agents’ from further assaulting him.

In a writ of summons dated 27th of February, 2020 issued by his counsel, Soji Oyetayo, also reveals that six other monarchs from the three local government areas in Iwo, who witnessed the alleged assault also deposed to affidavits to testify on behalf of the Agbowu against the Oluwo.

This is coming after Oba Akanbi was suspended from attending the Osun State Traditional Rulers Council meeting for six months.

A committee headed by Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Adedotun, was also constituted by the council to further investigate the matter involving Oluwo and Obas in Iwo land.

The royal fathers at their emergency meeting held at Osun State Government Secretariat, Abere,Osun State agreed to suspend the monarch for six months.

The meeting was presided over by Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

Pandemonium had broken out recently at the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 11, Osogbo, Osun State, when Ob Akanbi allegedly beat up another monarch, Agbowu of Ogbagbaa, Oba Dhirulahi Akinropo.

The incident occurred during peace meeting to resolve a land tussle among royal fathers within the Iwo axis, where the AIG Bashir Makama had summoned the royal fathers.

It was gathered that during the meeting where other monarchs, top police, and government officers were present, that Oba Akanbi allegedly rose up from his seat and descended on Oba Dhirulahi Akinropo, Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa town, inflicting injury on him.

But Oba Akanbi denied the allegation that he assaulted Oba Akinropo, during a peace meeting in the state.

He said the allegation was a desperate gang up against him.

The monarch, who denied the trending report of physically assaulting Oba Akinropo, said what happened was a ‘mere altercation and not physical combat.’

Oba Akanbi said what transpired between him and the Ogbaagba monarch was a fallout of a courageous move on his part to put a stop to economic oppression against the downtrodden by kings in his domain.
