Officers of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 17 suspected cultists at Ijora Badia and Ikorodu areas of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Bala Elkana in a statement on Sunday said on Friday, at about 1420hrs, Ijora Badia Police Station received a distress call that two rival cult groups armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, engaged themselves in a battle for supremacy at Iso Isu area Ijora Badia and inflicted various degree of injuries on each other.

“Police operatives from Ijora Badia Division and Special Strike Force on Social Miscreants from the Command Headquarters, Ikeja were mobilised to the area. Five suspects were arrested.

“The suspects are Olaniyi Abiodun ‘m’ 21 years old of No. 28, Exeter street, Amukoko; Emola Kamal ‘m’ 20 years old of No. 28, Epe street, Amukoko; Muritala Gbadeyanka ‘m’ 18 years old of Badagry area; Kadiri Bashorun ‘m’ 28 years old of No. 24, Ireti street, Ijora Biadia; and Adebayo Ebiesuwa ‘m’ 25 years old of 27, Bale street, Ijora-Badia. They belong to Aiye and Eiye confraternities,” he said.

In a related development, Elkana disclosed that on Sunday at about 1100hours, Ikorodu Police Station received an information that members of Aiye and Eiye Confraternities attacked each other at Ladega area ikorodu and that one Lateef Ganiyu Akinpelu a.k.a Eti, 24, was seriously injured.

“Police operatives from Ikorodu division, Area N, Shagamu Road, Ipakodo, RRS and SARS were mobilised to the scene. The injured person was rushed to General hospital, Ikorodu where he is currently receiving treatment. Twelve suspects were arrested namely, Ajayi Ibrahim ‘m’; Isiaka Abdullah ‘m’; Yusuf Balogun ‘m’ and nine others. One locally made pistol was recovered. Investigation is ongoing, the suspects will soon be charged to Court,” he said.
