Malam Ahmad Abdullahi: dies while observing Juma’at prayer

A 71-year-old man has died in Sokoto, north west Nigeria while observing the weekly Juma’at prayers along with other worshippers.

Malam Ahmad Abdullahi died at Sultan Bello Mosque, Sokoto on Friday 21 February while observing the two raka’at during congregational prayer.

According to some worshippers, Abdullahi had prostrated to observe the second raka’at, but he never got up to continue the rite.

The Daily Trust did not say whether the service was terminated after Abdullahi died amidst the congregation.

It was not clear whether the septuagenarian had premonition of death.

On the day of his transition, Abdullahi went to a nearby shop to buy a blade to shave, in preparation for the Juma’at prayers.

“As he was leaving the shop, he came across a friend who joked with him about reaching the Juma’at mosque before him.

He was said to have responded: ‘I will be there before you Insha Allah.”

He certainly meant transiting to eternal life before his friend.

He was survived by a wife and three children.
