18th February, 2020
Non- governmental organization, Step-Up Foundation, over the weekend visited the Islamic Orphanage Home, Adewole in Ilorin to celebrate Valentine with the less privileged to donate foods and other relief items.
The NGO’s Valentine outreach was the second of its kind, the foundation held a similar one last year.
The less privileged were given food items, clothes, toys among other things.
According to the convener of the group, Oyeleke-Olabisi Hawwau, their mission is to spread love to the needy, adding that Valentine’s Day is not only meant to shower gifts on partners but to care genuinely for other members of the society.
“This is our own way of marking February 14th. We believe it is bigger than romance between romantic partners. The day is meant for spreading love and caring for others. It is an anniversary for togetherness. That is why we visit the streets and orphanage homes to donate items.
“It is our hope to encourage others to always reach out to people in the same vein,” enthused Olabisi while speaking to the press,” she added
Hawwau further said they plan to include basic medical care in their Valentine project for the coming year.
