Wife of the Lagos State Governor Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has called for more relief camps to be built in Lagos.

She said, Lagos, as Africa’s modern mega city, there was need for the state to be well prepared for emergencies.

Sanwo-Olu who spoke on Tuesday when she led other wives of Lagos State Government officials to the Internally Displaced Person’s Relief Camp located in Igando area of the state to donate relief items worth millions of Naira to the victims of Abule-Egba Pipeline explosion, said immediately the disaster happened, the State government came to the rescue of the victims.

“You could see when they were talking and giving their responses inside there that the victims have lost a lot, they have lost everything and after talking to them, they realized that it is very important for them to also thank God that they haven’t lost their lives.

‘’They have something to thank God about, that there are people out there in Lagos state that still cares for them despite the fact they have lost everything but they haven’t lost everything totally. The Lagos State government has magnanimously come to the cry of the people through the Lagos State Emergency,” she said.

According to her, ‘’We settled the victims in a settlement camp under the special duties ministry and a lot of people have joined Lagos State government to partner with them to provide all the necessary things that they need. They are asking for their homes to be returned back to them, they are asking that NNPC should come and review the situation, they are asking that their children should go to better schools but like my sister here said, it’s a step at a time.

‘’The most important is their well-being and thanking God for being alive and after that, all other things can be added on to that and I think that is laudable for Lagos state and Lagos State Emergency Agency.’’

Director General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke Osanyintolu said, ‘’You can see clearly that in Lagos East, we have Agbowa relief camp, in Lagos West, we have Igando relief camp, at Epe we have the LASEMA response unit and if you look at the Lagos state now, a Lagos state that is cosmopolitan, metropolitan, a star city.

‘’Look at what is happening at the Central Area, we are appealing to the governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu to ensure that we build our Lagos Central Relief Camp because that is the area that we are going to have petrochemical, that is the area we have our marine rescue units and that is the area we have our Lagos State Central unit and the most important thing in Lagos state, our state, metropolitan state, cosmopolitan state, a state that is moving to smart city, we must be well prepared.’’
