Drama has continued to play out between the Ikokwu 5 and E-Crack Squad as attempt by the unfortunate mechanics to recover their properties seized by the police at point of their arrest proved futile.

The four surviving members of Ikokwu 5, at the point of their release, alleged that police were still holding unto nine phones, and total sum of N128, 400.00 cash, their working tools, wallets, identification cards, ATM cards and other personal effects belonging to them.

However, when representatives of the Rivers State Civil Society organisations (RIVCSO) in Port Harcourt led the Ikokwu 4 to the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID in an attempt to recover their belongings, having been declared innocent by the state Magistrate Court of the charges labelled against them, the police presented only four phones and declared the other items missing.

Only three of the surviving mechanics were on ground to identify the items.

Ifeanyi Onyekwere, the fourth surviving member, was represented by his brother as he was still on sick bed as a result of the multiple injuries he sustained during torture in detention.

The late Chima Ikwunado was also represented by his brother, Tony Ikwunado.

Out of the nine phones seized at the point of arrest, three belonged to the now bedridden Ifeanyi Onyekwere, one to Victor Ogbonna, one to Ifeanyi Osuji, two to Osaze Friday, and the remaining two belonged to late Chima Ikwunado.

At the SCID, it was reliably gathered that Ifeanyi Onyekwere recovered just one phone out of his three phones. Ifeanyi Osuji saw his phone. Osaze Friday got his two phones.

Victor Ogbonna did not see any of his phone or his personal items. The late Chima’s brother was able to recover only one phone.

Meanwhile, all N128,400.00 was declared missing by the police.

Of the sum, N95,750.00 belonged to the late Chima Ikwunado, Ifeanyi Osuji laid claim to N27,400.00 while N5,250.00 belonged to Ifeanyi Onyekwere.

Ifeanyi Osuji could also not find his toolbox which he claimed cost over N100, 000.00, lamenting that without his tools, he was doubtful of any opportunity for him to continue to source for livelihood if and when he finally gets well.

Tony, the elder brother of the late Ikwunado broke down in tears when he switched on Chima’s phone and saw his picture on the wallpaper.

It took great effort of the Rivers State Civil Society Organisations (RIVCSO), P.R.O Comrade, Solomon Lenu, and the Chairman, Comrade Georgewill Enefaa, who led the delegation to console him to take courage and pull himself together.
