Obasanjo and El-Rufai
Nigeria’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has opened up on what he knew about the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai who clocked 60 years at the weekend.
Obasanjo disclosed that El-Rufai made success of his administration privitazation programme between 1999-2003.
The governor was the first Director-General, Bureau of Public Enterprises (PBE), established by Obasanjo when he was President during his first term between 1999-2003.
In a congratulatory message to mark the 60th birthday of the governor on Sunday, Obasanjo noted that El-Rufai also turned around the infrastructural and socio-economic development of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), when he was the Minister of the FCT.
The message, which was made available to newsmen by the former President’s Media Aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, described the governor as a Nigerian, who has demonstrated rare qualities of commitment and courage in the public service in various capacities.
According to Obasanjo, “over the years, I have followed, with keen interest, your modest inspiring career as a Professional architect, community leader, administrator and politician. And I note, with special delight your demonstration of rare qualities of commitment and courage in the public service in various capacities.
“Under my watch as a democratically-elected President of Nigeria, you made a great success of our privatization programme as the Director-general of Bureau of Public Enterprises, which resulted in the liberalization of our nation’s economy and our being able to meet some of the challenges of globalization and tackling the problem of poverty in our land.
“I must also applaud the giant strides in terms of infrastructural and socio-economic development which the Federal Capital Territory FCT, recorded under your focused administration as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. I salute the uncommon sense of duty and patriotism demonstrated by you at enhancing sanity in the physical development at the FCT.
“Without any doubt, as the incumbent governor of Kaduna State, you have contributed to the well-being of your people, especially in the implementation of populist programmes and infrastructural development in the state.
“I can only implore you not to rest on your oars and to re-double your efforts as the Chief Executive of one of the most politically restive States in the North West of the country to ensure peace, stability and security in the state until we collectively, propel our dear country to the promised land.
“I trust you will continue the good work you are doing to the glory of God and to the benefit of our people.”

Obasanjo is a hypocrite, no one should believe him. Tomorrow he will say a different thing about the same man. By the way, what was successful in the criminal privatisation exercise where he and Atiku allocated everything to themselves and their criminal friends
El Rufai is a Quantity Surveyor; the writer should take note
Since the exit of El-Rufai as FCT Minister, the nation’s capital has not had any other performing Minister. Streets that glowed at night are now dark because the lights are not well maintained by the government of the day. The popular “El-Rufai buses” remain one of his best legacies in Abuja. I am disappointed with him as a Governor because of the persistent killing of Christian minorities and his second term muslim-Muslim ticket in an ethmoreligiously volatile state.
As at today we shall never repeat our past mistakes by praying to Allah to give someone close to us to lead us any more due to recent experiences, where those that ruled us turned deep ears on all our complaints, but do what they like instead of facing what’s our problems. We rather pray to Allah to give us leaders from any part of our country that have the capacity to do right things to our nation.
Mallam El Rufai is a rare breed. A man of uncommon character, who risked his life to bring sanity to FCT.
I salute your courage and wish you a long live with good health.
OBJ is saying so because he does not want Tinubu to rise Nd he knows El Rufai will contest. OBJ visited him last two months for this purpose. And as usulaldoes not want Atiku nwr that post.Niether does he want Igbo man. We know OBJ very well.
You got it wrong. Obasanjo is detribalised and forthright in his thoughts. Elrufai once served under him .
On Atiku every Nigerian knows that Obasanjo supported him in 2019.
Your allegations on ibo presidency is vague and the usual ibo character visiting their failure on other tribes. Your problem started by your Zik of Africa nepotism. Ibo are suffering from the seeds of evil Zik planted.
Therefore leave OBJ alone.
El_ Rufai made some progressive contribution to the FCT during his tenure. Let us hope that he will make some positive mark in Kaduna state. The frequent kidnapping and killings in the State in recent years do not give the State nor the governor any positive name. The killings must stop for the STATE TO MOVE FORWARD under his watch. Please note that EL _Rufai. IS a Quantity Surveyor not an Architect as claimed in the above report.
His doing well in Kaduna state, I wish him the best God bless Nigeria our great nation, God bless Kaduna state.
Since I knew Obj this is the first time I sees him CONGRATULATING someone still in service.
Baba iyabo is the man of reality. I pray him long life .
