Nigerian Music legend, Innocent Idibia popularly known as 2face or 2baba has mourned the passage of highlife music legend, Victor Olaiya, who died on Wednesday died at the age of 89.
The veteran musician Olaiya, who clocked 89 years on December 31, 2019, passed away at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Wednesday afternoon after a brief illness.
While reacting to the sad news, 2face expressed sorrow over the death of Olaiya.
In a post on his verified Instagram page, the music legend who sang ‘Baby Mi Da’ with Olaiya in 2013 wrote:
“Devastated by the news of your passing. Dr. Victor Olaiya – maestro, mentor, legend.
“Thanks for the beautiful music. Thanks for the inspiration. Blessed for the honour of sharing a mic and stage with you. Rest in peace baba.”
The “Baby Jowo” crooner retired from his musical career in 2017 and had some hit tracks like: “Omopupa”; “Jemila”; “So fun mi”; “Tina Meta”; “Pambotoriboto”; “Aigana”; “Odale Ore”; “Mo Fe Muyan”; Opataritius”; “Omolanke”, among others.
In the same vein, A former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to the death of the veteran musician.
The former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, in his condolence message eulogizes the late singer for his artful delivery on the trumpet.
“My condolences to the family of Nigeria’s highlife legend, Sir Victor Olaiya, OON. His artful delivery on the trumpet and his hits from the 50s are moments we’d never forget. Most recently, the duet with @official2baba, was a musical bridge to travel. May his soul Rest In Peace.”
