Prof. Bilikis Lafiaji-Okuneye, Provost, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Otto-Ijanikin, said that the college would continue to produce quality teachers who would be role models in the state and the nation.

Lafiaji-Okuneye told newsmen on Tuesday in Otto-Ijanikin that the college’s mission was to become a leading teaching education institution in the country that would be recognised globally for academic excellence.

Prof. Bilikis Lafiaji-Okuneye, a Professor of Health Education, was appointed the provost of AOCOED on Jan. 12, 2020.

The new provost said: “We always encourage our students to see teaching as a noble profession and have a passion for it.

“AOCOED as a teachers training institute is a 21st-century institution that has met the minimum standard in the award of Nigeria Certificate in Education.

“There is room for improvement in the area of infrastructure development and funding of programmes to improve quality of teaching, learning and research,” Lafiaji-Okuneye said.

She said that management of the college would continue to create an enabling environment for teaching and learning within and outside the college.

“We are creating synergy between the unions and the management by improving on the existing welfare packages for staff and students.

“Our strategy is to solve every issue with the unions without them going on strike or even thinking of such.

“Our students are important to us and we also create a good relationship with our host communities because most of the students stay off-campus,” she said.

Lafiaji-Okuneye said that the health facility of the institution would soon be open to residents of their host communities and consultations would be free while the medical test runs at a competitive price.

She added that her administration would be transparent in order to maintain peace in the college.

She further said that the Lagos State Government was very passionate about the development of the college by making the institution a university of education.
