Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has denied ordering the arrest of his former aides, John Mayaki.

A report based on a statement allegedly authored by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, said “the Police in Edo State had contacted the family of John Mayaki in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, through High Chief J.M Akpeji, the Otu of Igarra to submit their son to the police custody failing which the nonagenarian would be arrested.”

Osagie has, however, denied issuing the purported statement asking the police to arrest Mayaki.

He said no message of that sort emanated from his office.

“I never issued any statement like that, the Governor did not order the arrest of John Mayaki.

“The statement is false, null and void, it does not emanate from my office,” Osagie said.
