President Buhari and VP Osinbajo
President Muhammadu Buhari has explained that 35 aides were not sacked from the Office of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, but that they were redeployed to a new ministry.
The President, who fielded questions from NTA State House Correspondent at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, upon his return from a private visit from the United Kingdom described the interpretations of his directives as a sack as ‘unfortunate’.
The President described what happened as a re-organisation and not a sacking, stressing that, a new ministry has recently been created, that is, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
“They said 35 people were sacked in the Vice President’s office but we just created a ministry and we reorganized but people are giving it an ethnic and political dimension. It is unfortunate,” the President said.
While media report had widely reported the sack of 35 aides, including the circulation of a list of those sacked, informed sources insisted that what the President directed was a redeployment and not a sack.
The President’s comment in the NTA interview last night on arrival from his UK private trip indicated that although some Presidential aides had confirmed the sacking of 35 aides, the President only gave express instructions for redeployment to ministries not sacking.
Meanwhile, President Buhari assured Nigerians that he was more energized and ready for work. “We are going to work harder to be accountable and try to make Nigerians see why we do certain things. Accountability from bottom to top is absolutely necessary,” he said.
Some people had falsely reported and claimed that President Buhari had sacked 35 aides in the Office of the Vice President to whittle down the powers and influence of the Vice President.
Some also claimed that the sacking of the 35 aides were to reduce the influence of the Vice President ahead of 2023 elections and were masterminded by a certain cabal with the Presidency.
The Presidency has however always maintained that the President and his deputy, Prof Osinbajo enjoy a very good relationship.

How many presidential aides were redeployed.
Please allow the VP to react himself, he is a sound professor of law and Know better than many, allow peace to reign please. Everything has time and God is watching all the players including we, the spectators, stop all these police, religious and ethnic bias and us to enjoy peace.
Oga Buhari, in power concept/ indices, you simply minimize/ marginalize your deputy. You do not rationalize the functions of an individual who has capacity to perform or deliver. It speaks volumes. Ministers are to pass through your Chief of Staff? Please stop rationalizing nonsense. The enlightened Nigerians know that you have completely castrated your victim in the power game. If in doubt, ask competent students of politics and administration. By the way, how many successful/ standing organizations did Abba Kyari run or have before becoming Chief of Staff? Remember many voted for you or acquiesced to the shenanigans of the 2019 elections because of sympathy for Osinbajo and your wife. On what parameters have you creditably perform to merit re-election? It looks like you brought the gentleman on board to attract the Christian/ Southern votes before rubbishing/ diminishing him for all to see. Ganduje’s adviser just called him VP Academics without any consequence, a proof of tacit endorsement from your government? You exhibit the opaque side of leadership. A team divided against itself will ultimately implode. This system is hemorrhaging. We live in very interesting times.
This is a very simple issue. They have created a new Ministry to take care of some of the responsibilities of the VP and some of those people working in that department have been taken to that ministry. What’s the fuss all about? The president has not done anything wrong to warrant all the name calling.
You didn’t sack his aides, you redeployed them and didn’t replace them, leaving him short of 35 aides.
What a shallow and puerile excuse from a man completely wired and committed to the destruction of a very humble and smart vice president.
What a divisive figure. What an agent of commotion, subjugation and subversion.
What a troubled and fantastically sadistic government.
What a situation. I take a stroll. Nonsense.
You are still pained. What a shame from people like you. PMB is here to stay and you can’t do nothing to him. Empty barrel like you can’t win an election withing your house and you here spreading falsehood, Do even know the meaning of deployment?
Jasper, your comments are very unresonable, new ministry was created to care of welfare jobs those people are doing and they were redeployed to that ministry. Look at all jargons and name callings you were making. God is there for you, bad Belle and agent of dark people.
@Jasper Redeployment means transferred to another office being that the jobs they were handling before
have been re-designated to another newly created ministry.
Why should they be replaced when the job is no more there?
Always take a dive not just a stroll. Your stroll don tire me!
Yes. If you want one for your wife, create it! Yeye Awoulu
Awoulu “Awolu”
That is the ministry of your new wife!
