Human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana has accused Kingsley Moghalu, the Presidential candidate of Young Progressive Party, YPP during the 2019 presidential election of taking up an appointment from President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration after discarding his political party, YPP.

Falana made this accusation at 2019 Felabration symposium; “The FELA Debates,” a segment of the annual festival in honour of the iconic Legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, held at the NECA HOUSE, Lagos.

According to him, the current administration celebrated opportunism by decorating Kingsley Moghalu who ‘discarded’ his own political party for personal gains.

“I think it is unfair to single out Dr. Moghalu for recognition, we should not celebrate opportunism. Here is a politician who contested under a platform of a political party who has now moved conveniently to the APC, they have just given him an appointment and he has now discarded his own political party, I don’t think that is fair for us,” he protested.

The professor of International Business and Public Policy who was at the event but left before Falana had a chance to speak later took to his twitter handle to deny the claims, saying it was not fair to be crucified on the basis of mistaken identity or coincidence of names.

President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed the National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress, APC, George Moghalu as the new Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

  • Femi Falana is broke. The moment President Buhari announced his cabinet and Falana's name was missing, he changed to be PMB critic. Falana lost credibility over five years ago. He did that to GEJ, then what happened?. If he handles your case, he will make it worse.None of the politicians hired him. Instead of him to go to the right, he will be going to the left.Late Alao Aka-Bashorun was his boss. He did pupilage in his chamber. Aka-Bashorun was a decent and silent activist. Look at Mr Festus Keyamo SAN, he did his pupilage in Chief Gani Fawehinmi's chamber and Mr Tayo Oyetibo SAN too. Those are decent activists. Femi Falana likes trouble and is always found where there's trouble. He has more than thousands of cases in all the courts both in Lagos and Abuja. Peter de rock Ayodele Fayose is not a lawyer, but he rendered him useless. Falana is from Ekiti, he has never been shortlisted for any legal position both in state and federal. What does that tell you? I rest my case.

    • @oloye oloko I appreciate the fact that you have taken time to describe the vibrancy and unrepentant activism Mr femi falana has been. What will human beings go to the grave with except good conscience and legacies for the youth and unborn child. But political appointments it's not an achievement but a call to service which on the other hand has been an opportunity to syphon money and put the populate abject poverty. Pls, I need you to change your orientation of activism, there is nothing like silent activism except you want to be deceived irrespective of your maturity and erudition. Thanks

  • I don't like this type of very nasty mistake. Honourable Chief George Moghalu is a notable politician who has been a member of APP, ANPP and now APC man that Falana himself should know. Why will he for Christ sake take him for Kingsley Moghalu? I agree with those who says he Falana is becoming an unbecoming. Let him peacefully apologise to Mr. Kingsley Moghalu

  • I think Falana should be more careful, there is no need trying to play the activist when we all know he's the opportunist. He only became a Buhari critic when he lost the lobby for a job. He should just keep quiet

    • Honestly, you don't seem to know what you're saying and I'll appreciate you write what you're very sure of. This a man that true activism flows through his veins, an unrepentant activist to the call. Pls, do not bring the struggle for Nigeria liberation backward.

  • Anyone can make the same mistake irrespective of class and crass but I do agree he should apologise but to compare Falana to Oby in terms of their values and benefits to the common man is to commit a crime only God can forgive.

@Peacemaker, how I wish you know who Falana really is, his achievements for activism, human rights, good governance etc.
I dare say a man like Falana cannot expire in the next 100 years if he lived till then because this is a life dedicated to the good of others, a completely selfless life.

I am a Yoruba man but I say to you in all honesty, Wole Soyinka is a world renowned icon and a good man, he loves to stand for what he believes is right but I present to u a fighter, defender, the voice of the voiceless, an activist per excellence, a legal luminary, a fearless fear of the oppressors in the person of Femi Falana.

I just wish u could google Falana's achievements and u will be shocked to discover the recognition of this small but inherently great man in Nigeria, Africa, and world over.

For the record, I am not from Ekiti and I have never met him in person in my entire life but I love him and his passion for justice when others are concerned about making money and name.

  • See what PEPT has caused in this country. Moghalu, whether Kingsley or Andrew - all belong to the YPP presidential candidate in the 2019 election.

  • I really do think Femi Falana is talking too much. People are no longer taking him too seriously and it is not good for society. We need a constructive Falana. Verbosity is not activism. He is talking too much to the point where he is making mistakes and, in some cases, off point.

He should learn from Soyinka and co. They talk rarely but when they talk, they make sense. He seems to be following in Oby Ezekwesili's road to perfidy. He is beginning to sound like Oby Ezekwesili before she self destructed. Its not about being talkative but about the quality of what you say....

  • Femi Falana, you goofed. Just retract and apologize, chikenan ko? We await your contrition. I nearly believed you, please don't mislead the public again.

    • Yes, I know as a learned man he will apologize. But we should have it in mind that no human being is perfect

  • I would have thought that falanan, a San, learned and well informed man should have gotten his facts right and not mistake one moghalu for another.
    Anyways, talk is sheep.
