President Donald Trump has dismissed as phoney the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll results showing that his job approval rating has dropped to 38% from 44% in July.
ABC News and The Washington Post released results of their survey Tuesday, noting that Trump’s prior rating was a record high for his time in office. The poll also measured high concern over the U.S.-China trade war and for the economy. Fifty-six percent of respondents disapproved of Trump.
Trump accused media networks of rigging poll results against him.
“One of the greatest and most powerful weapons used by the Fake and Corrupt News Media is the phoney Polling Information they put out,” Trump tweeted Tuesday, going on to say many of the polls are “fixed”.
ABC/Washington Post Poll was the worst and most inaccurate poll of any taken prior to the 2016 Election. When my lawyers protested, they took a 12 point down and brought it to almost even by Election Day. It was a Fake Poll by two very bad and dangerous media outlets. Sad!

But FiveThirtyEight, which rates pollsters using a grading system based on their historical accuracy and methodology, gives the ABC News/Washington Post poll an A+ with 78% of races analyzed called correctly, USA Today reported.
The survey released Tuesday had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. Trump’s average job approval rating based on RealClearPolitics’ aggregated polls is currently 43% with 53.9% disapproving.
Within the Republican Party, 82% approve of the president’s performance, according to the ABC News/Washington Post survey.
Trump’s tweet is the latest in a long list of complaints about his approval ratings from various surveys. He has consistently maintained that his support within the Republican Party is 94%. This figure appears to come from internal polling Trump has referred to in previous tweets.
The president has also called polls by the Associated Press, CNN, NBC and his formerly preferred network Fox News “phoney polls.”
