The Lagos State Government on Tuesday charged community leaders in the state on accountable use of resources at their disposal for community development.

Speaking at a two-day Leadership Training event organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs for Community Development Committees, CDCs, Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communications, Akeem Sulaimon said there was need for CDC members to embrace the principle of accountability.

According to him, accountability, which included financial transactions, documentation and reporting, was key for grassroots development.

He said the theme of the event, “Community Development Practice and Activities in the 21st Century,” was relevant and apt for the progress of all facets of community’s well-being, including economy, environmental and cultural across the state.

Sulaimon opined that at the end of the training, community leaders would have been well equipped with knowledge on how to handle finances in their various communities with ease.

“I therefore charged participants to tap from the wealth of experience of the seasoned facilitators and contribute positively,” he said.
