The Plateau Government says it has fixed Jan. 26 for the commencement of another round of polio immunization.

Mrs Jerisha Kakwi, State Health Educator, Primary Health Care Board, disclosed this at a meeting of the State Social Mobilization Committee (SSMC) on Monday in Jos.

Kakwi said the aim of the 4-day exercise, which would end on Jan.29, was to eradicate the disease in the 17 local government areas of the state.

“Our call to the public is for them to ensure that all children between a day-old and 5 years are given the vaccine,’’ she said.

She tasked the members of the committee to reach out to the various communities to ensure that the exercise was successful.

Earlier, Mrs Ruth Abwo, SSMC Chairman, challenged members to mobilize, educate and give correct information to the public on all communicable diseases.

Also, Dr. Moses Sunday, State Coordinator, USAID – Breakthrough Action, said that the NGO was prepared to partner with the SSMC to ensure the success of the programme.

The exercise is to safeguard against the spread of the disease from Plateau’s neighbouring state where its outbreak had been reported.
