The United States of America’s President Donald Trump has said he ‘never meant’ that Mexico would ‘write a check’ for the border wall.

“Obviously, I never said this, and I never meant they are going to write a check,” the president told reporters at the White House South Lawn before leaving for McAllen, Texas.

But Mexico, he said, would pay for the wall, over and over, indirectly.

“They are paying for it with the incredible deal we made called the United States Mexico and Canada, USMCA deal. It’s a trade deal. It has to be approved by Congress.

“And when I said Mexico will pay for the wall, in front of thousands and thousands of people, obviously they are not going to write a check. But they are paying for the wall indirectly, many many times over, by the really great trade deal we just made.

Trump then accused the opposition members in the Congress of having a political motive for opposing the bill.

“…maybe they even hold that up because they want to have…you know, they want to do much harm as they can, only because of the 2020 presidential election”, he said.
