A group of armed robbers fleeing from the police pushed down an injured member of the gang from their vehicle, thinking that he was dead.

The injured robber was, however, saved by policemen from the Lagos Command who took him to the hospital for medical attention.

Following the treatment meted on him by his gang, the suspect is cooperating with the police by divulging the names and hideouts of members of the gang.

Trouble started for the robbers on November 15, 2018 when they tried to burgle a shop situated at Maya, along Ijebu-ode road, Ikorodu, at about 0240hrs in the morning.

According to Chike Oti, spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, the hoodlums arrived the scene in a Mazda bus with registration number KRD 783 XW and started breaking the shop.

Their operation was however aborted midway when policemen on pin-down duty near the scene alerted the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Shagamu road Police station, CSP Adekunle Omisakin who quickly mobilised to the scene with a team of anti crime policemen and engaged the robbers in a shootout.

When the robbers could take no more of the fire exchange, they jumped into their car and drove off as quickly as they could. The police team chased them; along the way, the robbers pushed one of their colleagues with bullet injury whom they mistook for dead, out of a moving vehicle.

The team recovered the man, revived him and he gave his name as Yusuf Nasiru, aged 34 years. He was searched and a knife and some charms were recovered from him.

He was thereafter taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical care. Meanwhile the suspect, miffed by what his gang members did to him, is cooperating with the police by giving useful information.

The Command Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi has congratulated the DPO and his team for frustrating the plans of the robbers and for their timely response.

He assures Lagosians of peaceful ember months; adding that the crime preventing strategy of his administration is structured to ensure that the Command remains the end point, in other words, the last bus stop for unrepentant criminals.
