Mrs Tewa Onasanya, the Editor-in-Chief, Exquisite Magazine, has urged Nigerians to always genuinely appreciate women for their roles in society, community and the country as a whole.

Onasanya, who is the organiser of ‘ELOY Awards’, made the call in Lagos on Monday.

She said that the award ceremony was aimed at recognising Nigeria’s outstanding women, their achievements and roles in the society.

“Increasing the economic visibility of women in Nigeria; creating a platform for networking; hence, enhancing communication links between women and celebrating women of excellence in their different fields,” Onasanya said.

She said: “We have been able to achieve our aims through consistent and persistent work.

“This platform has been celebrating and encouraging women since 2009.

“Since the inception of the award ceremony in 2009, we have given awards to over 180 women and we have realised that in celebrating women, they are encouraged to do better.”

Onasanya said that for this year’s ceremony, more award categories had been added to celebrate women.

She added that some of these awards include: Inventor and Innovator of the Year, Author of the Year and many more.

The author explained that the award winners were women of good character, women who had earned the respect of others due to past achievements and many more criteria put in place.

“The general public is involved in the choosing of award nominees and winners.

“The organisation sends out list of categories and encourages the people to nominate any woman that fits the category, as all women are worth celebrating,’’ Onasanya said.

She said that, aside the awards,¸ winners walked away with gifts, including return tickets to anywhere in the world.

Onasanya advised young ladies to be consistent and persevere and “keep doing what they do and do it well’’.

“They might not see the reward now but they should think of themselves as work in progress,’’ she said.
